Sunrise fishing – Amed, Bali, Indonesia
This then is where each day starts and where each day the dream repeats itself. While fathers are out fishing on their boats, the young kids try to catch their own from the shore with a simple line and hook attached to a bottle or can. They put a small bait fish on the hook and cast it into the water, slowly pulling it back while rolling the line up around the can or bottle it’s attached to. If nothing bites, it gets thrown back. If something’s caught, they quickly throw the fish on the rocky beach and try again. As the sun slowly rises and the day starts, they stop fishing and carry their catch to their parents. I give the kids a thumbs up while I point at their three fish. One of them smiles and says “tomorrow” while holding up four fingers.
